the targets. Despite under worst climate change scenario, the demand of heating was
still dominated even the effect of increases in cooling energy consumption. Although the
UK climate is predicted to be warming up, UK dwellings still have a significant concern in
heating load. According to the results, winters will become milder and demand for
heating will be reduced by between 10% to 15% through the climate change scenarios.
This is due to climate change alone, without any building fabric improvement. Focus on
existing housing stock should be on reducing heating loads. However, the better
standards as 2006 building regulation and best practice case showed that increases in
cooling demand compared to the uninsulated case through the climate scenarios. This
shows that the well-insulated with better airtightness design is not giving any benefit of
overheating and reducing cooling load (Kim 2010). Comparison studies for two different
constructions methods as the ‘Light-weight’ and ‘Heavy-weight’ structures show that
heavy-weight structure has better performance of heating and cooling energy
consumption than light-weight structure.
