Carrying out such work is rather problematic because the existing arch is not able to
guarantee the original load-bearing capacity because of the degradation of the material
present.
For this reason it is necessary to take preventive action, strengthening the arches using
stainless steel metal bars fixed by two-component epoxy resins.
The detailed phases of the project are as follows:
STEP 1:
The first stage envisages the consolidation of the perimeter walls by injecting
natural limes to restore the mortar of walls. Then the original arches will be totally
reinforced with stainless steel bars with diameters of 10 mm L = 300-1500mm anchored
with epoxy resin adhesive (reference points in the figure n.1,2,3). In this first phase, it is
necessary to carry out this work to ensure that the subsequent creation of poles and of
the foundation plinths does not cause damage to masonry structures due to subsidence
and settling (Fig. 48).
