b) Study B - Sensitivity to Location
Heating demand falls and cooling demand increases between results for present and
throughout 2020s to 2080s. However, although cooling demand increases gradually, it
starts from such a low baseline that is dwarfed by the heating demand, even in 2080s.
Proportionally, all locations present similar reactions between 10% to 15% in heating
demand throughout Present to 2080s. Overall, all sites show a fall in CO
2
emissions due
to the reduction in heating demand by global warming. The most significant reduction of
CO
2
emissions is made by reduction of heating energy consumption and it is easily offset
through further CO
2
emissions by increasing growth in cooling demand.

c) Study C - Sensitivity to Construction
In general trend (see Figure 6), heating energy consumptions are decreased with
improved building fabrics’ thermal properties. In contrast, cooling demand is increased
as tighter the building fabric’s standards are and this is happened as increased external
temperature throughout Present to 2080s.
Through the results, the heavy-weight construction method shows better a performance
of heating and cooling energy consumption. With the improved building fabric standard,
the heating energy demand is decreased and the most significant reduction was made
from the ‘Uninsulated’ case to the ‘2006 Building Regulation’ case. In terms of cooling
energy consumption, having no insulation in heavy-weight construction is the best output
and as tighter the building standards, the cooling consumption is increased due to less
heat losses through the building fabrics and infiltration. Certainly, the most important
factor for these trends is made by Climate Change and Global Warming effect.
