“product that support local economy”

“Core Based Statistical Area”.
In this sense, the distance of extracted, harvested or recovered raw materials from the
project site is anymore relevant, but what is now important is the responsible sourcing of
these raw materials. This concept in LEED Italia version is just limited to the use of
certified wood (FSC), while in the future version, it includes other kinds of products such
as bio-based, extracted, mined or quarried materials.
Furthermore, the new LEED encourages to purchase building products with a declared
chemical composition without contaminants that can damage air quality, human health,
productivity and environment listed into
State of California’s Proposition 65 Safe Drinking
Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, Chemicals known to the State to Cause
Cancer or Reproductive Toxicity.
In
EQ section
, LEED Italia has no prerequisite, while LEED v.4 introduces a prerequisite
requiring a
Construction Indoor Air Quality Management Plan
, according to
SMACNA/2008 standard.
For what concerns low-emitting materials, whether LEED Italia takes in consideration
only the VOC content (g/l) for specified products categories (adhesives and sealants,
paints, flooring systems, composite wood and agrifiber products), LEED v.4 is based on
a systematic approach, that considers TVOC emissions after 14 days (mg/m³). For the
purpose of this credit, the building interior is organized into five systems:
flooring,
ceilings, walls, insulation and furniture
. Total assigned score depends on the percentage
of surfaces covered by compliant low-emitting products.

. After the LEEDs comparison, we have verified with a
qualitative analysis, the point contribution of the roofing system, considering the aspects
related to the materials choice and construction yard management.
The current roof configuration can contribute in achieving

In
EA section
, the roof, thanks to its energy performance, combined with other building
systems and HVAC components, evaluated through the whole building dynamic energy
simulation according to ASHRAE 90.1/2007, Appendix G, can contribute to get as
maximum 19 points (performance improvement of 48%).
In
MR section
, it is possible to obtain 5 points choosing materials properly, while other 2
points can be gained planning the management of the construction site.
