locus “between”.
The sunspace takes on the value of a place of
transition
, defined as the transition
between
two or more areas adjacent to the sunspace; however, the locus is not just a
pathway alternative to the one preconstituted by the dwelling layout or an interspace that
brings two different dwelling functions closer or moves them further apart. By removing
the boundary between the functional units a new space is created out of the preceding
ones which, for this reason, differs from them: one further area of the dwelling having
different characteristics from those of the spaces having generated it and which is
configured as a flexible space.

Sunspace locus and architectural body, sunspace locus and urban context
.
The need to redefine the identity of the sunspace object in order to fully appreciate its
formal potential in the organizational development of the dwelling layout prompts us to
extend the investigation to the entire architectural body. The need thus arises to identify
the formal relations that the
sunspace locus
may develop vis-à-vis the entire building. It
is thus necessary to decide what architectural valence to assign to the
sunspace locus
when its implications are being investigated on a larger scale than that of the dwelling.
The
sunspace locus
must therefore be viewed as a compositional element of the building
– it composes the building’s elevation and three-dimensional development – and it is
thus not possible to neglect the role all the architectural components are called upon to
