The devices and the correspondent functionalities of the smart system were specifically
established, in order to manage the interactions of all the technological system
components.
In particular the following input devices were included in the project of the smart system:
temperature and humidity sensors, magnetic contacts to check the opening or closing
state of the windows, occupancy and movement detectors and luminance sensors. Each
device shall be connected with a weather station in order to monitor the outside climate
conditions (temperature, luminance level, wind speed, rain).
With a touch screen it is possible to visualize and control the parameters available on the
connection between the devices.
Also the sunspace of the building could be completely automated, for helping user to
manage correctly this passive solar system, in order to get the best contribution that it
can give. The automation system gives the specific signal about the proper functionality
based on the outside weather conditions. In this way it is possible to manage the
sunspace in winter season or define the total opening in summer (Fig.5).

The implementation of the functional program has been previewed in two specific
temporal modalities: the daily running function and the seasonal.
The functionalities of the smart system for the sunspace could be:
•
automated control of the opening/closing system of the windows, in order to optimize
the convective fluxes of the air and the temperature level not only inside the sunspace
but also in the adjacent rooms (automated control with priority of the manual
operation);
•
local and remote visualization of the state of opening/closing of the windows and of
the shading system of the sunspace in according with the best position calculated
dynamically;
•
detection of the temperature values in the sunspace.
The cooling system of the building is based on natural ventilation strategies. The
functionality of the automation system for the natural ventilation improvement in the inner
space can be focused on the activation of the windows automated opening system. The
main input parameter of this regulation function is the local detection of the inside
