Prestwick has 81% of its population living in their own houses than private/council rented
houses. Out of 29 respondents only one person stays in a council rented house while the
rest of them (i.e. 28) are the owners. Moreover the family sizes varied from 1 to 4 while
the average family size is 2.28. 17 families out of the 29 respondents are two member
families, proving the fact from the demographic study that 53% of the people in
Prestwick are alone or couples without children (Fig.7).

Visibility of the wind turbine from the streets and other external locations make its
appearance a crucial factor. Wind turbine needs to merge well into the streetscape for
people to feel encouraged about installing one in their own homes. Only one person
found the wind turbine enhancing the aesthetics of the building and the surrounding
landscape while 22 people found it visually unattractive. 6 people felt that the wind
turbine does not affect the appearance of the building and the surrounding landscape
(Figs.8 & 9). With 76% of the people finding it visually unattractive it becomes important
to raise the bar for the design standards of wind turbines as they wouldn’t want to have
something that diminishes the aesthetics of their building and its surroundings. Having
