2. Available Modes of Travel:
Walk + Bus + Walk
Expected Time of Travel:
4+35+2 = 41 min
Expected Cost of Travel / month approx: 30 £
In this special case the environmental concerns are to maximum along with affordability,
distance fitness and safety gaining priority. There is a VALUE MISMATCH between the
used mode and the options available (Fig.8).
CASE 7
This case is similar to case 5 where the user prefers walking and sometimes uses
bicycle or subway. This is the nearest place to the destination. Following are details of
the present situation and the available mode of transports in that area and the cost
variance between them.
Distance Travelled by the user: 2.7Km
Current Situation
1. Modes used by the user:
Walk
Current Time of Travel:
23.5 min
2. Modes used by the user:
Walk + Subway + Walk
Current Time of Travel:
2+4+2 = 8 min
Current Cost of Travel / month approx:
60 £
3. Modes used by the user:
Bicycle
Current Time of Travel:
7.5 min
Options Available
1. Available Modes of Travel:
Car
Expected Time of Travel:
8 min
Expected Cost of Travel / month approx: 10.9 £
2. Available Modes of Travel:
Walk + Bus + Walk
Expected Time of Travel:
10 min
Expected Cost of Travel / month approx: 2+25+3 = 30 £
Here the priority is as expected by a walker or cycler with high environmental concern
with time and affordability. There is a VALUE MISMATCH between the used mode and
the options available.
CONCLUSIONS
As the world is modernizing the mode of transportations are becoming a big lifeline for
human beings. But it is hard to say that this system acts as an asset or defect. As every
system this also has both its problems and as well as uses. Already it has been
discussed about the problems caused by the automobiles like pollution, congestion etc.
After the above research a connection can easily be established between human
attitudes and choices made for the modes of transport. There is a correlation between
the modes and the human attitude. There are some factors that act neutral to all mode
users. One of the factor common to all commuters is the time factor. However if
individual mode users are related there is relationship between the car users. The
