These factors are considered by the subconscious mind, which people tend to neglect
while planning for the transport infrastructure for a place. These factors are:
Age
Health
Weather Conditions
Topography
Safety
Perceived Accessibility
Physical Accessibility
Privacy
Status
Environmental Commitment
Social Interaction
These factors are those factors which were thought to affect the mode of choice of
Glasgow people in general. The survey was done to ask them about their thinking on
factors affecting their choice of mode of transport. Following paragraphs identify each of
the above factors in relation to transportation.
Age
Let’s see if anybody wants to travel, what will be the first thing which will affect his
decision and it is age factor. Some of us might disagree with this factor so it will be
easier to understand this factor if we take a case. For instance, if a person to make a
travel is 60+ his mode of transportation will 90% will be cars, but if the distance is small
or the time of travel is less than 10 min on walk, the person may choose to walk. But, if
the person travelling is a middle aged person his choice may vary on many other factors.
Automatically with age comes the health factor.
Health
Mainly health is accompanied with the age factors but with some restrictions. Generally
speaking as we age up our health conditions deteriorate so as our stamina, energy and
etc.
So we tend to choose a mode of transport which is less stress full and requires less
energy so maximum tends to cars but it differs with the availability of cost option. It can
also be a key factor for a health conscious person, choosing to travel by foot so as to
remain healthy. Also anyone can change the mode as per his daily health condition.
Health can also be taken on a restriction bases with no options but to use a private
vehicle for the physically challenged people.
Weather Conditions
Although Weather conditions are one of the factors which we do not govern and can’t
help change it as per requirement but it is one of the vital factors deciding our mode of
transport? This factor may make person choose a vehicle if he travels on foot daily
depending on the weather outside. One may even switch to car from buses or trains.
