Figure 6: Tower type solar water system on the flat roof (Kalogirou 2005)
There are many examples of the solar water heating system in Cyprus in different type of
roofs. The most typical system is tower type solar water system on the flat roof which
can be seen on Figure 6. The other possible type is on the sloped roof which can be
concrete or wooden (Kalogirou 2005) (Fig7). The other possible type can be pressured
solar water heater on the sloped roof which can be seen on Figure 8. The only
disadvantage of the system is that it is not aesthetic on the roofs but when it compares
with the advantages it becomes more convenient. Also, it is possible to hide the system
during the design process of the house. Some designers or house owners prefer to build
extra buildings in the garden and settle the system on this building due to the aesthetic
issues (Michaelides 1991; Kalogirou 2005). This is possible where there is a large
garden and when there will not be any possible shadow on the solar panels in future.
