Balneario Camboriu is the first city between the tourist municipalities of the State of
Santa Catarina, with the best quality of life, according to the HDI (Human Development
Institute), and according to a survey released by the UN, is among the ten cities in Brazil.
Balneario Camboriu like many Brazilian cities, had an accelerated urban growth and
disordered due to lack of urban planning. Can be noted by data provided by IBGE (2010),
that in 1991 the city had a population of 40,308 inhabitants, and according to data from
the latest census (id.), Balneário Camboriú has a population of approximately 108,089
inhabitants, this shows a growth of approximately 4,500 people per year.
The city seeks to exploit the tourism, because this is their main activity. Has excellent
tourist infrastructure, with emphasis on the hotel chain with 110 hotels and almost 20
thousand beds, restaurants of different kinds and gastronomic diversity, nationally and
internationally.
Another activity that is growing in the municipality is the construction being responsible
for the second largest amount of jobs offered in the city, second only to the tourism
sector. However the city lacks adequate urban planning to support this rampant growth
that's been going on.
