Abstract
The environmentally symbiosis complex of the Café-Cum-Home (hereinafter referred to
as "
Hoi-an Cafe
") was designed and built by
Hoi-an Cafe Design Project Team
—i.e.
(AKIRA.Y, TAKAHIRO.Y and YOSHIKI.H) from 2009 to 2011. This building is adopting
some passive design about natural cross ventilation, sun shading and a reduction of the
thermal transmission in the walls and roofs.
For one year starting from August 4th in 2011, the environmental measurements about
outside temperature, wind speed, wind direction, room temperatures, globe
thermometers in the rooms have been measured. And, the thermal performance of the
external surfaces was verified using the thermography.
As the results, the inside surface temperatures were equal to or lower than the room
temperatures. Whereas, the outside surface temperature of the roof was over 50 degree
C at daytime, the inside surface temperature of the roof was lower than the room
temperature all the day. It seems that the roof can store much rainwater.
Next, the advanced water treatment system by the wastewater treatment tank and two
Bio-Geo-Filters
were also designed. And, the purification performance of the waste water
was measured by the
Pack-Test
. The
Pack-Test
is a simple method for the water quality
test. Using the
Pack-Test
,
Nitrate nitrogen
,
ammonium nitrogen
,
phosphate phosphorus
,
total nitrogen (inorganic)
and
chemical oxygen
demand (COD)
in the water treatment
tank and the
Bio-geo-filters
were measured. As the results, the waste water from the
building was purified very well.

Introduction
In recent years, Vietnam is grossly accelerated economic development. And, the climate
in Vietnam is hot and humid. Therefore, Vietnam's energy consumptions including
cooling are fast growing. Moreover, the water quality of Vietnam’s rivers is worsened by
population growth and backward sewage plant equipment.
The environmentally symbiosis complex of the Café-Cum-Home (called as "
Hoi-an
Cafe
") was designed and built at Hoi-an town in Vietnam by
Hoi-an Cafe Design Project
Team
from 2009 to 2011—e.g. (Pic.1).
The town of Hoi An in central Vietnam is located in 30 kilometers south from
Da-nang
city
. Hoi-an town is very hot in summer and humid throughout an year. Hoi-an have dry
season from early February to late-August and rain season from early September to late
January—e.g. (Fig.1 and Fig. 2). Even when Hoi-an is in the dry season, It rains every
three or four days.
Hoi-an Cafe
is adopting some passive design using natural cross ventilation, sun
shading and reductions of the thermal transmission in the walls and roofs.
