The old core is part of the former monastery of St. George and consists of the north and
west buildings, while south and east buildings were built in more recent times.
Of the two old buildings, only the west one maintains clear elements related to the old
system: some internal partitions, the outer loggia with cross vaults and round arches,
resting on stone columns with Doric capitals, and eaves of the facade made of bricks
(figg. 34 & 35)

The two buildings to the south and east, built in the first half of the 20
th
century, were
made without considering the original layout, and are radically different. In particular, the
position of the south building distorts the central area, over which all buildings overlook,
giving a trapezoidal shape and leading to the loss of the original square plan (figg. 36
&37).
