Figure 22: Detail of junction
The existing gallery slabs are no longer able to sustain the design loads so they are
reinforced with the use of carbon fibre fixed to the base with epoxy resin.
The steel-glass structure-cover of the light wells, at about +15.00 m, is exclusively
composed of a window located at the outer side. Therefore the metal structure can be
seen from the inside: designers opted for a grid made of steel beams HE400A and
IPE200, with connections in the nodes made by flanges and bolts.
The metal structure is of significant aesthetic value, which is achieved through the use of
metal HE400A beams, bearing appropriate side plates welded in order to generate a
rectangular element similar to a metal tube, with sharp corners.
It should be noted that, compared to the solution with HE400A beams without closure
elements, one obtains an effect of considerable improvement of the values of
deformability of the system to the benefit of the cover glass, which is remarkably
sensitive to excessive deformations.
A slab made of steel and concrete was constructed on the lateral walkway zones. This
element corresponds to the existing walkway on the lower level (+10.95m).
The lateral slabs of the cover are made using corrugated sheet HiBond 55/P600 (s =
10/10 mm) and concrete casting to complete the structure (thickness 11 cm)
